Dr. Jane Goodall discovered that when we put local communities at the helm of conservation, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment. JGII, in collaboration with local NGO’s and forest officials, have put together eCo-Exist, a conservation based educational outreach program whose aim is to help harmonize the conflicts humans face with wildlife.
In 2024, the first eCo-Exist ‘Human and Elephant’ program was launched in Assam. By understanding the challenges which local communities face as well as identifying the impact of human activity on wild elephants, an open dialogue of best practices could be shared reinforcing that coexistence is possible. Communicating these best practices with educators empowered school children to take on initiatives through JGII’s Roots & Shoots Program, demonstrating that they are part of the solution and can make a difference!
